It’s Friday afternoon, which means the possibilities for weekend activities are endless. From movies, to art exhibits to TV specials, there are enough things to do to span Friday through Sunday. Here’s what we have on our radar this week:

Art on the Rocks

Join the Birmingham Museum of Art as it kicks off its annual after hours event Art on the Rocks. From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., an assorted mix of performers such as Red Mountain Theatre, DANCe Company, Yellowhammer Creative and Opera Birmingham will entertain the crowd at different times. Dj COCO will keep the party going in the museum eatery Oscar’s Café all night.  Gallery talk“Tattoos as Art” will start at 8 p.m. The Photography guild will host a demonstration of emulsion transfer art all night in the Jemison Gallery. St. Paul and the Broken Bones will go on as the headlining musical act at 9 p.m. on the upper terrace. Admission is $20 for non-members and tickets are available at the door. Junior Patrons get in for free.

“Man of Steel”

Get in on the summer blockbuster action with the latest incarnation of Superman with “Man of Steel,” in theaters now. Follow Clark Kent as he discovers who he is, where he comes from and  how he can save  pretty much all of mankind. “Man of Steel” is rated PG-13. Check out the trailer below:

“This Is The End”

Superheroes not really your thing? Check out “This Is The End” and see what a bunch of actors playing themselves would do during the apocalypse. The movie stars James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Seth Rogen, Emma Watson and a lot of other people. Rihanna, Kevin Hart and Mindy Kaling also make appearances. This movie is rated R and probably not suitable for the younger members of the family, FYI. Watch the trailer below:

Miss USA pageant

Ah, the pageant system that launched a thousand Katherine Webb posts. Watch young women from all over the country as they compete for the Miss USA competition Sunday, June 16 on NBC. Nick Jonas and Guilana Rancic will host as the show is broadcast from Planet Hollywood Resort at Casino in Las Vegas at 8 p.m. Miss Alabama USA Margaret McCord will be representing our great state.

Any big weekend plans? Let us know in the comments.
